Alexander Technique
In living we adopt habitual attitudes and patterns of co-ordination which we are often unaware of. We are also often unaware of their effect on our levels of physical comfort, energy and well being, as well as our physical and mental performance. The Alexander Technique is a way of becoming aware or conscious of them and their effects. The increased awareness allows us to establish a new form of control, one which integrates our attitudes and actions with our postural support so that we are left alert, breathing freely and able to move in a balanced and poised manner. In turn this help us to become more comfortable in day- to-day living, with increasing amounts of energy, focus and control. As a result a different attitude to life can develop.
Understanding what is involved in this change of co-ordination and control by reading alone is very difficult; the experience has to be there too. The experience can be quickly and powerfully given by an Alexander teacher allowing you to understand what is involved and whether lessons are for you, To get this experience, you can either come to an introductory workshop or for a series of lessons. Lessons offer not only the experience of change but a chance to establish the new pattern of control on a permanent basis leading to an increasing integration of our actions and attitudes with our postural reflexes and breathing.
